The Wolf in the Land of the Coa River – Tourism Activity

During three days, the participants in this Ecotourism Program were able to enjoy nature and the people, the flavors and the wisdom of the Coa border region. The activities were many and contact with livestock breeders was decisive to understand the reality that is lived in farms near the presence of the wolf. The integration of a small Serra da Estrela pup in a herd in Sabugal, already protected by a fence provided by the Project, was cause for excitement and joy, with everyone posing for a photo-op with the friendly dog that, even though somewhat bewildered by its first trip car, seemed willing to comply with the demands for more and more photos.

The last day of the trip included a visit to Lobos Curral, the pitfall (a wolf trap that used a live goat as a bait) that is the only one still in original condition throughout Portugal’s central region.
