The Med-Wolf Project presents its first results to wolf stakeholders
Since January the 20th the Project is undertaking a round of presentations to livestock breeders' associations, municipalities and official entities such as the Protection Service of Nature of Environment from GNR and the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests. In these work sessions, a wide range of topics is approached, from the wolf’s physical characteristics to the behaviour and distribution (both actual and historic) of the species. Not forgetting its diet and practical aspects of the main threats to which the Iberian wolf is subject, like poison and poaching. The most current information on the wolf’s status in the Portuguese border areas further east is also being presented. With reliable data, adapted to each group of stakeholders, areas such as the opinions and attitudes of the public towards the wolf, prevention methods and the population dynamics of the species were covered. Each session ends with a period of interaction with the participants, that can make suggestions and have their questions answered.
At the same time, the brochure "The Iberian Wolf in Portugal" is about to be distributed. A complete guide for anyone who wants to know the species, its biology and ecology, and clarify many questions about prevention methods, myths, financial support, preventive measures and much more.
