30 wolf experts having confrontation

The Workshop on Evaluation of Damage Prevention Measures, organized under the LIFE Medwolf project, has started. Today 30 experts from Italy, Swiss, Portugal and Slovakia discussed the complex issue of assessing the effectiveness of the prevention measures for damage caused by large predators. Guardian dogs, fixed enclosures and mobile electrified fences have been analyzed, highlighting the problems, advantages and criticisms of the various approaches at European level. As for LCD, for example, experts agreed that their effectiveness in preventing damages caused from wolves is very variable in relation to the character of the dog and to the determination of the breeder in training the dog.

At the end of the workshop, the experts moved to a DifesAttiva farm, where they discussed with four breeders, of the Grosseto Province, the expectations and the appropriate methodologies for evaluating the effectiveness of guard dogs.
