Ecotourism Program - "The Wolf in Coa Lands"

This route is part of the new "Great Route of the Coa Valley," and aims to raise the general awareness to the local people and their way of living off the earth. The "Grand Route" is a 200 km route that follows the Coa River from its source (in Fóios, Sabugal municipality) to Vila Nova de Foz Coa. In this activity the participants will travel on foot through one of the most beautiful sections of this river, next to Sabugal; visiting the Corral de Lobos, an ancient stone trap to capture wolves. After recovering forces with local delicacies in an outdoor picnic, they will visit shepherds and livestock farmers who will talk about the presence of the wolf in this territory, about pastoralism and their views on the countryside. An authentic sharing of stories and experiences who now live "in the mouth of the wolf" – the visitor will discover an ancient history of conflict, myths and courage – and of course, authentic products of the land, from an unique cheese to the excellent sausages.
